Little Adjustments for 2013
I was walking home one day and a glint on the street caught my eye. I picked up a small lead weight; the kind that clips onto a car rim to balance the tire. It looked brand new and probably fell off a recently installed tire. What struck me is the thought that this small amount of weight, less than an inch wide, helps provide a smooth ride for a whole vehicle. An average car weighs about two tons and this relatively tiny lead weight makes a two ton vehicle drive without a shimmy.
It got me to think about the small decisions in our lives that make such a big difference. Little things like having a thankful attitude no matter what the circumstances are. Like cleaning out my car once in a while. It makes driving so much more enjoyable. Other things that are simple but make a big impact are things like reading the Bible each day for a few minutes. It doesn’t take long to do but what a difference it makes in the whole day! There are many ways in the church to make little adjustments for big results like serving on Sunday mornings and being part of a weekly small group. These are simple and small adjustments that make everything run smoother.
Now that we’re into a new year, what adjustments could you make that will provide a smoother ride in 2013? May you enjoy a shimmy free new year, unlike the driver of the vehicle without it’s little weight.
