Human Advice and Godly Wisdom
I bought one of those classic bamboo back scratchers. You know, with the curved end to get at those hard to reach places. Mine is the deluxe model that comes with wooden wheels built into the handle for massaging. This is a tool for the serious back scratchers out there! The slogan on the tag says, “Tools that mean business.” Whoa. And for only two dollars!
In fact, the manufacturer is so serious they encourage users to wear protective eyewear! Really! On the label in small print it says, “Using hand tools can be dangerous. Always take caution when in use and keep away from children. Wear protective eyewear in work areas at all times. Select correct type and size of hand tool for the job. This product is manufactured in China.”
For years I had no idea how dangerous it was to scratch my back! This whole time I let the kids use one unsupervised! What was I thinking!? I shudder to think what could’ve happened to me or a loved one!
I hope you find the same humor in this as I do. Even though all I said is truly on the tag, I don’t think they seriously expect me to wear protective eyewear to scratch my back.
In this day and age, there’s a lot of human advice and so-called wisdom flying around that’s just plain silly. Unfortunately some consequences of bad advise is far from silly and can be very bad. The world we live in has always and will always go against God’s design for what He created and called very good. I encourage you to keep your peace and trust the God of the Bible who’s still in control and still holds all things together that seem to be falling apart.
Here’s true wisdom in Psalm 37, “Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Read all of Psalm 37 for godly advice that gives reason to relax, trust God and actually rejoice in a time when the whole world seems to be going more and more crazy. The same Jesus who rode into Jerusalem as king in humility on a donkey will again ride in on a white horse, with the angels and with power as King of kings! All who have put their trust in Him will rejoice. Renew your trust today in the One who loves you with an everlasting love and promised to never leave you or forsake you. Until Jesus comes back, or your dying day go to church every week like your life depends on it.
Well, I have to go and find my protective eyewear. I told my wife I’d take out the garbage.
